I recall several years back at a trade show where we were showing the GORBY 1000 machine and a roaster would remark, “there is no way I will sink to packaging my coffee in a pod, for doing so will damage my reputation”.  Given the choices back then, that is perhaps understandable. We have a new sheriff in town and the GORBY is not your father’s Oldsmobile. Besides, the environment has greatly changed since then.

COVID-19 Effects on Coffee Shops & Restaurants

Since the first case of COVID-19 pandemic in the United States was confirmed in February, the restaurant industry has suffered devastating effects. Restaurants and coffee houses across the country have been forced to close their doors to customers. And until we get an inoculation for the virus, they will remain shuttered.  Having to wait for a cure and get the majority of our population inoculated is predicted to take several years, which is a long time for these businesses to be closed.

An Opportunity for Coffee Shops

The coronavirus has created a “coffee boom” of sorts; the Financial Times reports consumer sales of packaged coffee are up 70% from last year in the United States.

It might be time for coffee shop owners to rethink whether packing their coffee into compostable pods could offer an opportunity to increase revenue while their brick and mortar locations are closed to the public. With on-site packaging, one is able to capture the coffee at the peak of its perfection. These are quality pods that will truly rival the classic pour-over.

Our machines are built in the United States with excellent access to spares. Specifically designed for coffee shops, these tabletop machines require no special power. Thanks to the digital press, a wide number of personalized graphics can be accommodated within a single press run.

In our shuttered environment, packaging your coffee might be an excellent solution for roaster and user alike. It’s definitely worth a look.
